Halley Scholarship

In memory of Halley and to keep his spirit of generosity and selflessness going the Halley Appleby Memorial Scholarship was established. Not only did his friends and family want to create a lasting memory of Halley, but he was a struggling apprentice himself, so the scholarship is designed to help rugby players experiencing similar financial pressures. It is intended to help make ends meet with the cost of playing rugby on apprentice wages. The program is open to applicants across all grades of UQ Rugby’s programs. The scholarship is given to a recipient, like Halley, who has a love of life, a commitment to education and employment, and the game of rugby union.

The scholarship comprises a modest one off financial payment to assist a young apprentice or trainee. Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria;

1. Apprentice or trainee – individuals who have not yet acquired an apprenticeship or traineeship but are actively seeking are encouraged to apply providing relevant information on their actions to secure such positions

2. Actively playing, or intending to play for UQRFC

3. Proven team player
